LANDesk Acquires the VMware Protect Product Family
Today LANDesk announced that it has acquired the VMware Protect product family, which came to VMware through the acquisition of Shavlik Technologies in 2011. LANDesk is acquiring the VMware Protect technologies (which will be renamed Shavlik Protect), existing customer accounts and the core team.
In 2013, VMware is executing against three priorities – Software-Defined Data Center, Hybrid Cloud and End-User Computing. As part of our efforts to focus on these areas, we came to the conclusion that asset and patch management as a standalone offering would be best provided by a partner such as LANDesk.
Delivering a new approach to management for dynamic virtual and cloud environments remains an important part of VMware’s business. We have developed a portfolio of management solutions designed to allow customers to provision and manage services in today’s hybrid cloud and heterogeneous environments, delivering:
- Cloud Service Provisioning to automate the provisioning and lifecycle management of infrastructure, applications and desktops across multiple clouds and platforms.
- Cloud Operations Management to manage the health, risk, efficiency and compliance of your infrastructure and applications.
- Cloud Business Management to govern and manage cloud services as a critical element of running IT like a business.
Our Cloud Operations Management solution, VMware vCenter Operations Management Suite, uses patented analytics to manage the health, risk, efficiency and compliance of infrastructure and applications across multiple platforms and clouds. VMware is committed to continuing to provide customers the best-in-class management solution for both VMware vSphere®- and non-VMware vSphere-based private clouds as well as supporting alternative public cloud providers.
It was important to VMware to find a buyer that would be a good home for Protect customers, and we believe LANDesk is a great fit.
