The energy in the air is palpable here at VMworld 2012. I have attended every VMworld since 2004 in both the US and EMEA and this year is one of the most exciting yet.
Not only because of the innovative technologies and offerings you’ve seen from our Cloud Infrastructure and End User Computing businesses, but because at the heart of this industry wide journey to the cloud is the need to dramatically change the way we build, run, and deliver enterprise applications. Our customers are standardizing on our Cloud Infrastructure to not only reduce costs in their datacenters but also to enable their developers with an agile and scalable platform on which to build new applications. Our End User Computing team is helping define how customers securely deploy these new and existing applications to end users either in a virtual desktop, smart phone or tablet.
As Pat Gelsinger mentioned in Monday’s keynote, VMware has shown great progress with vFabric and Cloud Foundry and is the only company offering an open multi-cloud solution that can leverage the advances of our Software Defined Datacenter, cloud architecture, expertise and ecosystem.
Businesses today require a holistic, new approach for connecting people with the applications and data they need to thrive in the cloud era. Our customers and partners look to us to help them with this and to that end, VMware continues to invest in innovations such as:

Cloud Foundry – our open source PaaS project truly enables a multi-cloud platform solution and its commercial availability is heavily anticipated. We recently announced a new release of Cloud Foundry Integration for Eclipse, which features the ability to open a tunnel to any Cloud Foundry data service. Cloud Foundry was also recently chosen by Intel as their enterprise private PaaS solution.

Spring – the most popular application development framework for enterprise Java™, recently announced the 3.0.0 releases of the Spring Tool Suite (STS) and Groovy/Grails Tool Suite (GGTS).

vFabric – in Q2 2012 we introduced vFabric Suite 5.1 and vFabric SQLFire Enterprise Edition, an in-memory distributed SQL database that will enable application data to meet cloud scale and performance needs.
We’ve seen a fundamental change in the way our customers are building and running modern applications and the products within the cloud application platform portfolio are designed to address today’s application development needs while providing a path to tomorrow. This is accomplished in three ways:
